Create & Review Inventories - Overview

Inventory is taken regularly to determine how much of each product is on hand, how much has actually been used, how much should be ordered, and to determine if actual costs are in line with budgeted costs. Products on hand are counted at regular intervals, according to the inventory schedule created at the start of this process. The inventory schedule is based on the company’s posting schedule.

Inventory may be scheduled as one "Final For Post" event or it can be broken down into smaller events. For example, inventories can be scheduled for individual storage locations, categories of products, or for specific products grouped together on a template or in a user defined category. Intraday Inventory counts can be performed, to allow users to count certain products multiple times per day.

The "Final for Post" inventory must be retrieved and saved before the period can be posted. If necessary, the system can be set up to allow users to perform Cycle Inventory counts so that different groups of products are counted (and different "By Exception" closing methods can be used) for a specific Final for Post event.

Net-Chef’s inventory-related functions allows users to define the sequence in which products are displayed on the count sheets, and set up alternate count units for products so they can be counted using more than one package type. Users can schedule physical inventory counts, copy scheduled inventory counts, print count sheets for scheduled inventories, enter the actual physical quantities after counts have been taken, and then compare the entered counts (what you found on the shelf) against the system counts (what Net-Chef says you should have found). Changes to saved inventory counts will be audited and can be reported on.
