Calculating Grams per Product
The next step is to calculate the number of grams of each product used in 1 Batch of the recipe. This is done in two parts:
- Convert the number of grams in each product’s Nutrition Unit to the number of grams in the Recipe Unit used in the recipe. The formula for this is:
- Grams per Recipe Unit = ((Grams per Nutrition Unit x Inventory Unit Conversion ÷ 100) ÷ Recipe Unit Conversion).
- Calculate the number of grams of each product in the recipe based on the amount used in the batch. The formula for this is:
- Grams per Batch = Grams per Recipe Unit x Recipe Quantity.
In this example, the number of grams per batch is calculated for the Kitchen Wine. This is done by converting the number of grams in the Nutrition Unit of OZ FL into the number of grams per Inventory Unit of BOX-5 LTR, and then converting that to the number of grams per the Recipe Unit of CUP. (If the Nutrition Unit is the same as the Inventory Unit, then the first part of this conversion is not necessary.)
Kitchen Wine
- Grams per Recipe Unit: ((28 x 168.96 ÷ 100) ÷ 21.12) = 2.240
- Grams per Batch: 2.240 x 2 = 4.480
Repeat this process to calculate the Grams per Batch for the remaining components, as show in Column L of the worksheet above.
