Secondary Markets

Restaurant locations creating vendor orders can potentially purchase products available in one or more designated secondary markets, as follows.

  • If a vendor has a bid/contract for a product in the location's Primary Market, the product will ALWAYS be available from that vendor. The bid price in the Primary Market will be used regardless of whether the location's Primary Market has any Secondary Markets assigned to it.
  • If NO vendor has a bid/contract for a product in the location's Primary Market, but a vendor does have a bid/contract in one of the location's Secondary Markets, the product will ALWAYS be available from that vendor - (see below to learn which Secondary Market will be used).

When the setting to "Allow purchase from secondary Market Vendors of products with Vendor Bids/Contracts in primary Market" is disabled (not checked) for the Location:

  • If a vendor does not have a bid/contract for a product in the location's Primary Market but does have a bid/contract in one of the location's Secondary Markets, the product will NOT be available from that vendor if ANOTHER vendor has a bid/contract for that product in the location's Primary Market.

When the setting to "Allow purchase from secondary Market Vendors of products with Vendor Bids/Contracts in primary Market" is enabled (checked) for the Location:

  • If a vendor does not have a bid/contract for a product in the location's Primary Market but does have a bid/contract in one of the location's Secondary Markets, the product will ALSO be available from that vendor, even when ANOTHER vendor has a bid/contract for that product in the location's Primary Market.

The following process determines WHICH Secondary Market will be used (when applicable as noted above):

  • If the selected vendor does not have a bid/contract in the location's Primary Market, it will look at Secondary Market 1 for that location's Primary Market. If a bid/contract is found, the product will be available from that vendor using the price in that market.
  • If the selected vendor does not have a bid/contract in Secondary Market 1, it will look at Secondary Market 2 (if one is assigned) for that location's Primary Market. If a bid/contract is found, the product will be available from that vendor using the price in that market.
  • This process will be repeated until all Secondary Markets assigned to that Primary Market have been checked. If no bid/contract is found for the selected vendor, the product will not be available from that vendor.

What is the benefit to this feature?

This will allow bids and contracts for broad line vendors and/or franchisors to be maintained in one or a few larger markets, which can be assigned as a Secondary Market to a location's (or franchisee location's) Primary Market. This way bid prices for broad line vendors, which are often the same in multiple markets, will not have to be entered in one market and then copied to other markets.

This will also enable franchisors to maintain bids and contracts for their franchisees (if they wish to do so). Franchisors will not have to establish bids and contracts in one or more of their markets and then and copy them to franchisee markets.

Notes:

  • A location will NOT have access to products/prices in a secondary market's secondary market.
  • The Preference noted above is NOT applied to Confirm Terms and E-Invoice files processed via the CDP. When the system is trying to “resolve” product records that are coming in on these files, the system will accept a product/price for a secondary market vendor even if there is a bid for a different vendor in the primary market.
